Unable to get past 1280x1024

Post by kublakhan »

I bought the Linux version of Fit-PC2 and ended up wiping Linux and installing Win XP SP3. I installed the GMA500 drivers from the Fit-PC2 site. Now in XP, the maximum resolution that I can select is 1280x1024. Under Linux it was 1920x1200.

Also, the Windows is only reporting 8MB of video memory. This may be due to the memory sharing, but it could explain the limited resolution.

I check the BIOS setting (256MB enabled). Device Manager says everything is fine. I have not yet installed PowerDVD.

Any thoughts?

The GMA500 driver is negotiating with your display which may report 1280x1024 max.
There are 2 kinds of allocated display memory - frame buffer (8MB) and aperture (128MB or 256MB).

I uninstalled all the video drivers, booted to XP with generic VGA drivers. Rebooted and installed the Intel GMA drivers. Seems to have fixed the issue. I'm not sure what happened on the original install, but its working now.
