1) download of mandrive 2010rc2 ONE for gnom or kde:

http://mirrors.kernel.org/mandrake/Mand ... 010.0/rc2/

2) download: mandriva_seed for windows or linux

3) simplde start mandrive_seed (has gui) and copy to usb stick.

4) use usb stick to boot ( set boot to usb stick in bios). this took only 50 seconds with fast usb stick. first i thought this didnt work, since it was so fast.

-> compiz and hyperthreading working right out of the box. tested with gnome, download kde just now ...

update, 3d desktop didnt work with kde4 for me, sticking with gnome

regards

No luck with Mandriva 2010 Spring ( 2010.1 ) with an Internet http install (I booted stage1 on usb or pxe).

The Poulsbo chipset is detected, graphic card chosen accordingly.
When I configure X during the install I have a blank screen and then the installer resume with an error message...

I will try again and got back here to write the error message. :?
Also I plan to test a Mandriva One 2010 Spring with a usb cd drive...

EDIT :
Maybe something here...
http://sophie.zarb.org/viewrpm/2aa79239 ... 9f4903bca5
But there is a bug with new xorg and this driver:
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=58944
The current Poulsbo (aka psb, gma500) driver is not compatible with xorg 1.7. So this prevents support of this hardware in cooker (and the coming 2010.1).

Let's note that there is a patch to fix the compilation, called "xorg-x11-drv-psb-0.31.0-xserver17.patch", however even with this patch the driver does not work (server freezes at the beginning).

The patch can found there:
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/ ... 11.src.rpm

For now the only workaround is to revert the entire X stack to the version found in 2010.0 . On the good side, the kernel part of the psb driver, is compatible with the latest kernels (2.6.33, and 2.6.34-rc1).

It's a bit difficult to get the right resolution at the right vsync...
When I ask 1280x1024@60Hz I get this error and then it's back to previous settings :

Code: Select all

An error occured :
(EE) PSB(0): the stolenBase is:0x3f800000
(EE) PSB(0): screnIndex is:0;fbPhys is:0x3f800000; fbsize is:0x007df000

Try to change parameters
(my English translation)

Any idea ?

It seems there's hope for the 2010.1 (spring) release with those packages :
http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=129619
There's a specific psb (poulsbo) kernel :)

As stated in the ubuntu 10.04 thread, there are some really cool guys from mandriva, fedora and ubuntu at work doint their magic to get the old driver running with recent kernel and xorg versions. For mandriva you should check the following links:

http://blino.org/
http://blino.org/blog/mandriva/poulsbo-xserver1.7.html
http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc. ... b/current/

i tried mandriva 2010 spring in a fresh install, but coulnt get it run. not with the ready build kernel driver or the dkms self build driver.

the monitor goes black, starting x, keyboard stops working. power button lets it boot down nicely.

but here is another thread, stating with ubunto 10.4 that the psb drivers cause the same problem - till he switch monitors ...

so back to 2010.0 - and again afraid to upgrade to spring

anyone got it nicely working ?

I have just installed Mandriva Spring 2010.1 PP and all seemingly went well. I took away SMP in the startupconfiguration.
But when I log in I am repeatedly logged out when I use a program.
I shall try install with another desktop than KDE.

Has anyone tried Mageia on fitpc2 ?
This is a Linux Mandriva distrib fork and it seems the guy that worked on the video driver patch has joined the Mageia team...
